Using cooked grains helps your dog’s digestive system transition to a totally raw diet. Most dogs cannot adapt immediately to a new kind of food without some transition time. If your dog has a sensitive stomach, it will be helpful to start out with cooked grains in the food and then move on to an all raw diet in the future.

We also have a low carb FATkins version of Dakota’s Dejeuner. Minimal treats and exercise are the most important factors in helping your dog to lose weight. But, when you combine these factors with a low carb diet, your dog will have more ease in losing weight.

The benefits of an all natural wet dog food is that it contains fresh, high quality ingredients that are raw or partially cooked. The cooking of meat and vegetables kills the important natural digestive enzymes that exist in the food. These natural enzymes help your dog to digest their food. So, it is important to have a raw or partially cooked diet for them. Also, a raw meat diet is better for a dog's digestive system because it mirrors what their ancestors ate in the wild hundreds of years ago.

An all natural wet dog food is usually found in the fridge or freezer and has a shorter shelf life than dry dog food. This means you can be assured of a fresher product that has all of its nutrients, vitamins and minerals still intact.

Dental hygiene is very important for your dog and cannot be neglected. Of course you should really brush your pet’s teeth! But, if your dog is eating a partially wet dog food diet, we recommend their chewing on raw bones to help with keeping their teeth free of bacteria and plaque as well as getting some calcium into their system.

Dry dog food is good for your dog’s teeth. It is convenient and easy to buy in any pet store. It has a very long shelf life and it usually does not cost very much.

But, have you ever read any of the labels of these low quality dry dog foods? Usually, they are full of animal by-products, preservatives, additives, artificial flavorings and colorings, etc. all which can contribute to chronic ailments and disease. Oftentimes, the dry dog food sits on the shelf for long periods of time and the oils in the food will go rancid.

Do you ever wonder why dogs seem to be getting cancer more frequently and have more chronic ailments? Think about your dog’s diet and start reading labels. Remember, your dog’s quality of health is only as good as what goes into its body.

If your dog has trouble digesting certain types of food or shows signs of dry skin, constant scratching, weepy eyes or excessive ear wax, then you probably have already consulted your vet. If the vet was concerned with the dog’s diet, then you should consider the benefits of changing to a more high quality of dog food, whether dry or wet or a mixture of both. Many allergies and other physical problems are the direct result of malnutrition. Even if your vet hasn't suggested a change in diet, maybe you should? We would be happy to consult with you or your veterinarian if you have any questions. We will have a holistic veterinarian for consultations in the future.

If what comes out of your dog has too much water or air (i.e. diarrhea or gas), then you should know that the addition of Dakota’s Dejeuner wet food has practically eliminated both of these problems for our customers' dogs. While I cannot make a guarantee that every dog will be as odor-free and carpet-friendly as those that eat Dakota’s Dejeuner, I feel obligated to share this information.

Generally speaking, an all-natural, holistic approach to meal-planning gives dogs the same benefits as humans. That is to say, what you put into your dog has a direct result in the outward appearance and energy level of your dog will have more playful energy, a shinier, softer coat, brighter eyes, more regular sleep patterns, an improved immune system to ward off disease and a more improved digestive system.

Another improvement in quality of life is a more even temperament, due to the reduction of the hypo-glycemic "sugar highs" of high carbohydrate dry foods. These "sugar highs" are the direct result of carbohydrate overdosing on commercial brand dry dog foods and treats.

At the moment, you can order directly from us by phone, 207-773-4344 or by email: deedee@dakotasdejeuner.com You can pay by cash or check. We do deliver. We will have credit card options, order forms and shipping by mail in the future.

Dakota’s Dejeuner is also available at Raining Cats and Dogs Pet Store in Cambridge, Massachusetts and we hope to have it in the specialty pet stores in Maine this summer.

You must keep Dakota's Dejeuner wet dog food frozen in the freezer until you are ready to use it. Thaw it slowly in the refrigerator (24-48 hours depending on your freezer and refrigerator). Once it is thawed, it has a 3-4 day shelf life in the fridge.

You should start off slowly by adding a tablespoon of the wet food into the mix of your dog's regular dry food, and gradually within a week, work towards a half dry, half wet combination. We will work with you to figure out what is best for your pet.

Please notice any differences in your dog, whether positive or negative once they have started the food. It only took my current customers 3 days to notice a difference in their dog's health and energy.

Please do not hesitate to email us with any questions, comments or success stories. We want to hear from you!
